2023/24 Season Highlights

As this year’s season comes to a close, our outgoing Club Captain, Anthony Wang, would like to reflect on some of the highlights from this past season:

“This season has seen plenty of success for BLBC, both on and off the water. We started the year by taking delivery of a new Hudson SP 8.12 for our women’s squad. This was a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge our medical school’s history, naming the boat after Dame Lesley Rees, the first female Dean of Barts Medical School. Her attendance at the naming and christening ceremony undoubtedly inspired all members of BLBC, leading to successes at every UH race this season. We even won a boat race at UH Head, despite it being cancelled… Off the water we raised over £3,000 for The Forward Trust and London Air Ambulance, thus winning the RAG Cup for a second year running. However, the most rewarding achievement of this season has undoubtedly been observing the quality and quantity of our novices, who now make up a third of all members. After their first full year of rowing, so many have taken up key positions on our next year’s committee, demonstrating their dedication and affection for this wonderful Club. The future of BLBC is in good hands, and I can’t wait to see what they get up to in the years to come.”
